A charming anecdote about the late Queen has come to light, revealing a note where she quipped that her corgi puppies had nibbled on a royal photo. The memo was addressed to Alan Maxwell, royalty’s go-to guy for photography who would process their films and share his expertise.
This extraordinary collection features over 60 festive and New Year greetings from the royal household, spanning the 1970s to the 1990s.
Mr Maxwell, who worked as a photographic and camera specialist at Wallace H Eaton Ltd in London – a firm that supplied directly to the Royal Family – was the Royals’ linchpin for all things photographic, even assisting with their annual Christmas card selections.
In a note written to Mr Maxwell ahead of Christmas, Queen Elizabeth II once candidly instructed: “Please check the print with the negatives to find out which is missing – eaten by the puppies – ER.”
Furthermore, a note from King Charles, then Prince of Wales, in 1993, disclosed his candid feelings about the “unpromising material” he had for that year’s festive greeting cards.
