David and Victoria Beckham have been close friends with members of the Royal Family for years, but they’ve quietly distanced themselves from Harry and Meghan in recent months
Victoria Beckham “never really liked” Meghan Markle and it’s one of the reasons she and husband David Beckham have ditched the Sussexes, a royal insider has claimed.
The A-list couple have been firm friends with members of the Royal Family for decades, with Victoria and former England footballer David counting Prince William, Princess Catherine, Prince Harry and Meghan among their circle of friends. However, relations between the Beckhams have soured in recent years, and it has been alleged they had a bitter fallout over rumours the couple had leaked stories to the press about Harry and Meghan.
The 49-year-old sportsman was once so close to the Duke of Sussex that he and Victoria were invited the Harry and Meghan’s star-studded wedding in 2018, but the Beckhams missed out on an invitation to the reception. In the run up to the nuptials, Victoria and David offered Meghan the use of their Los Angeles mansion for her to stay in after she found her mother’s home surrounded by paparazzi.
And when Meghan moved into Harry’s beloved Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace, Victoria gave her invaluable style and make-up advice, and even offered her one of her own staff to give her facials and do her hair. But when details of the Beckhams’ generosity was published in various newspapers, the Sussexes were said to be furious, and blamed the Beckhams for leaking stories, despite the couple firmly denying they had anything to do with it.
Their friendship deteriorated further when David, at the request of Prince Harry, flew to Australia to join him for the Invictus Games. However, when the ex-footballer arrived Down Under, he was snubbed by Harry, who reportedly refused to see him or take pictures with him, as Meghan feared David would “overshadow” her husband. “She wanted no competition in the media from David. It seemed she was not prepared to tolerate anything flattering regarding the Beckhams and the Games to appear in the media,” biographer Tom Bower wrote in his book Revenge.
