Queen Camilla’s secret sign of ‘soft spot’ for Prince Harry – despite scathing attacks
Prince Harry and Queen Camilla have had a turbulent relationship over the years, with the Duke of Sussex labelling his stepmother 'dangerous' and 'a villain' in his autobiography Spare
Queen Camilla reportedly maintains a secret soft spot for her stepson Prince Harry – despite a series of cutting jibes in his brutal memoir.
She is still said to have retained respect for the Duke of Sussex, despite his headline-grabbing remarks. Harry and Meghan’s eviction from Frogmore Cottage last year was said to have all come down to a two-word insult directed at the Queen Consort. King Charles asked his son and daughter-in-law out of the home, which was gifted to them by the late Queen as the monarch is said to have believed Harry “crossed a line”.
The Duke and Duchess were “requested to vacate” their UK home in a move that has reportedly left them “stunned”. The King was reported to be outraged by a string of Harry’s accusations in his controversial memoir, in particular his attacks on his wife. But even after reading his attacks, Camilla is understood to still hold affection for him.
Writing last year in Spare, the Duke of Sussex described her as “dangerous”, “evil” and “a villain”, accusing her of leaving “bodies in the street” while trying to change the public’s perception of her. He also claimed Camilla “sacrificed him” so she would improve her own standing.
The barbs didn’t end there. The Prince, who quit the Firm back in 2020, appeared to blamed her for leaking stories to the press about his wife and Harry wrote: “I have complex feelings about gaining a step-parent who I thought had recently sacrificed me on her personal PR altar.”
There were more than 60 mentions of Camilla in Spare – and the Duke of Sussex does not hold back his dislike for ‘the Other Woman’. But his particularly cruel comments were regarding her becoming his “wicked stepmother” before he claimed he and William begged Charles not to marry Camilla but they said they would welcome her into the family.
But earlier this year The Queen consort met Ukraine’s first lady Olena Zelenska at Clarence House and afterwards Ms Zelenska posted a video on social media from the visit. The footage showed them chatting in the Garden Room and focused on the family photos on display, including portraits of a teenage Prince Harry and an image of the King cradling a baby in his arms.
