Queen Camilla has been battling pneumonia, she revealed to guests at the state visit of Qatar’s Emir. The Queen Consort explained that her recent chest infection turned out to be a form of lung disease. Suffering from post-viral fatigue, Camilla had to skip the outdoor events of the Qatari visit on doctor’s orders, as she needs more time to recuperate.
A Buckingham Palace spokesperson stated: “The Queen has been suffering from a viral infection which has been diagnosed as pneumonia. Her Majesty has not required hospital treatment but is experiencing lingering side effects, chiefly suffering extreme bouts of tiredness which has meant the need for greater flex in her working diary.
“Her symptoms have been persistent for a number of weeks but fortunately she is well enough to attend several engagements for the Qatari state visit and looks forward to returning to a full schedule as soon as possible.”
The Queen has had to miss out on previous engagements due to an ongoing infection, including significant events in November surrounding Remembrance Day. This forced her absence from both the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance and the wreath-laying ceremony at the Cenotaph, which King Charles and other UK dignitaries attended. Camilla chose to mark the occasion privately at her residence.
Last week, the Queen also had to withdraw from attending the glittering Royal Variety Performance, with Buckingham Palace commenting on her health issues in a statement, noting that she “continues to experience some lingering post-viral symptoms” and was resting following doctors’ advice.
