Princess Charlotte’s iconic bracelet with special Arabic encryption to ward off evil
Princess Charlotte, 9, was all smiles as she joined mum Kate in Wimbledon last month - and accessorised with a dainty piece of jewellery that almost went unnoticed
All eyes were on Kate Middleton and Princess Charlotte at Wimbledon last month as the youngster joined her mum in her first public appearance since the news of her cancer diagnosis.
Dressed in purple and with a beaming smile, Princess Kate, 42, appeared full of joy as she walked over the famous bridge inside the grounds with Charlotte, and made her way towards Centre Court before the men’s final between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz. While the mum-of-three turned heads with her rich, violet-hued midi dress from Safiyaa, the Prince and Princess of Wales’ daughter Charlotte charmed in a flowy Guess polka dot dress.
Royal enthusiasts may have noticed the young Royal accessorising with a collection of delicate bracelets, including a new gold link bracelet adorned with a turquoise nazar amulet. The tiny eye bead, which translates to “sight” and “surveillance”, is an amulet thought to ward off the curse of the evil eye.
The ‘Evil Eye’ is believed by many to be a curse – often inspired by jealousy – which in turn causes harm to the person on the receiving end. Wearing an evil eye amulet is seen as a way of shielding oneself from these ill omens and misfortune. Charlotte’s dainty bracelet also had her name inscribed in Arabic.
While it’s unclear where Charlotte’s jewellery originated from, it may have been a souvenir from Jordan – a previous holiday destination for the family. In 2021, Kensington Palace shared that William and Kate had taken George, Charlotte and Louis on a holiday to Jordan when they unveiled their Christmas card. The trip had occurred earlier that year, and saw the family of five pose for a snap in the ancient city of Petra.
The British royals share a close relationship with the Jordanian royals, and last year, William and Kate attended the Royal wedding of Crown Prince Hussein and Rajwa Al Saif. Meanwhile in London, King Abdullah and Queen Rania were among the 2,300-strong congregation at Westminster Abbey for King Charles and Queen Camilla’s coronation.
Princess Charlotte isn’t the only young Royal embracing the bracelet trend. Prince George, the eldest child of William and Kate, was also seen sporting a friendship bracelet during his appearance with his father at the UEFA Euro final in Berlin on Sunday.
The ten-year-old prince looked smart in a navy suit and striped tie, but added a personal touch with a woven, sky-blue friendship bracelet.
