Prince William has been dubbed ‘stubborn’ while showing the type of King ‘he intends to be’ after he laid out plans earlier this month for his future in the monarchy. The Prince of Wales told reporters during his trip to South Africa that he would carry out duties with “a smaller ‘r’ in the royal”.
Writing on her Substack blog, called Fresh Hell, she continued: “He told reporters about his plans to ‘do things differently’ and then listed ‘impact philanthropy, collaboration, convening and helping people’. In short, everything his father has been doing for the past 50 years…” Tina abruptly added: “William’s comment that his plans for a caring, sharing monarchy also include ‘throwing some empathy in there’ made him sound like a performative pinhead. In happier years, it was the irreverent Harry (or Harold as William lugubriously used to call him) who could tease the Prince of Wales and take him down a peg.”
However, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond exclusively told OK! that William’s approach to change isn’t necessarily a bad thing. She explained: “Well, I do understand what Tina is saying in that William’s ambitions (philanthropy, convening etc) are very much what Charles has been trying to do for most of his life. But that’s no reason to stop trying….to step it up…to do it maybe in a slightly different style.”
Jennie continued: “I think his description of doing things with a small r in royal is a great way of getting us to understand the kind of Prince and King he intends to be. Less flummery, less formality… more getting straight down to business with the people at the sharp end of each endeavour.
Addressing Tina’s claims of the Prince of Wales hanging around with sycophants, Jennie added: “I don’t know whether it’s true William surrounds himself with sycophants…I rather doubt it. I believe he encourages quite a lot of informality in the office…not all suited and booted.
