Prince Harry once had to ‘plead’ with the Royal Family to delay announcing significant news. The world was officially informed of Queen Elizabeth II’s passing at 6:30pm on September 8 2022, just before Prince Harry could reach Aberdeen and head to Balmoral. Buckingham Palace had intended to issue a statement earlier, but Harry “begged” them to hold off as he wanted to be present, according to Omid Scobie, the author of Endgame. Harry’s plane was forced to circle the airport due to stormy weather.
The Palace agreed to wait, but eventually decided to announce the news without him. A spokesperson for the King stated: “The public was only informed after every family member had been informed.”
A source said the King was “adamant” that all members of ‘the Firm’ had to be informed of the monarch’s death before the palace broke the news, reports the Daily Record.
On the day of The Queen’s death, members of the Royal Family rushed to Aberdeenshire to be by her side at Balmoral. The Duke of Sussex was scheduled to attend a charity award ceremony in London on September 8 but had to cancel it to rush to his grandmother’s bedside.
Just days after the Queen’s passing, Prince Harry and his brother Prince William, along with their wives Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton, were seen together at Windsor Castle. They were there to view the floral tributes left for the late Queen and to conduct a walkabout.
