Prince Harry baffles fans with his ‘American accent’ in new video
Prince Harry left fans gobsmacked when he appeared to get a massive neck tattoo in a promotional video for his Invictus Games. In the teaser for the upcoming games in Canada, Harry is seen wincing in pain as he seemingly gets ‘inked’ by US music sensation Jelly Roll. The country singer and rapper humorously suggests that Harry has agreed to his first tattoo in the sketch. But it wasn’t just Harry’s apparent willingness to get a tattoo that raised eyebrows – it was his noticeably American accent.
Another observed: “His British accent sounds more diluted to make way for the American accent.” While another commented: “It sounds like Prince Harry is losing his British accent.”
It’s been nearly five years since Harry and his wife Meghan Markle shocked the world by announcing their decision to step back as senior working royals and start a new life in the United States.
There have been numerous instances where Prince Harry’s polished English accent seems to have softened. In 2022, he featured in a promotional video for tech start-up Better Up, where he holds the position of Chief Impact Officer.
Viewers noted his evolving accent at the time. Emma Serlin, a speech and accent expert and founder of the London Speech Workshop, told the Mirror that the changes in Harry’s accent indicate his shift towards being more “of the people” than Royal.
