Prince Harry and William called out by Ricky Gervais over ‘unbelievable’ move at his gig
The usually sharp-tongued Ricky Gervais has taken a cheeky swipe at Prince Harry and Prince William, accusing them of not forking out for tickets to one of his gigs.
He joked with the hosts, saying, “Once at a gig, I think it was Hammersmith Apollo, at the back was Harry and William, Madonna and Paul McCartney, not one of them paid. What money have they got between them that lot? Unbelievable.”
Not only did Ricky dish about high-profile fans attending his shows, but he also opened up about his journey in stand-up following The Office’s acclaim, puncturing the belief that fame hit him overnight. Amidst ongoing speculation about whether Prince Harry will make a return to the UK after his dramatic exit from Royal duties in 2020, Ricky, 63, felt the need to set the record straight about his rise to success.
He clarified: “I think people think I was an overnight success, but I was 40, I was doing this for 40 years. It wasn’t like I’d never made a joke before.”
The After Life star didn’t shy away from highlighting the years of experience under his belt either, adding, “I had 40 years of being around funny people and learning so it all goes in its all practice and I think the best practice is real life for anything.”
