Prince Andrew ‘reported to the police after accusation he used fake name to set up company’

Prince Andrew has been reported to the police over allegations that he used a fake name on company accounts.

The Duke of York, 64, is accused of filing documents to Companies House under the name Andrew Inverness.

He was reported to the Met Police by Graham Smith, the CEO of the anti-monarchy organisation, Republic, for allegedly using the pseudonym to list the company Naples Gold Limited. The company ceased trading in 2021.

It is claimed that the Duke filed the false name Andrew Inverness and a fake address when registering the business with Companies House, which is an offence.

The report submitted to the Met Police states the motive behind the use of false information is “unclear.”

In a statement, Mr Smith said: “The royals appear to believe they can act with impunity, an impression given weight by the lack of police action on serious allegations of corruption and sexual offences.

“The apparent filing of false information with Companies House may seem trivial, but the UK faces serious issues of fraud committed in this way. While no such fraud is alleged here surely Andrew must be held to the highest standards.

“As it is an offence under the Companies Act to file false information there must surely be a public interest in pursuing the matter when it’s such a high profile figure allegedly doing it.”

Reports dating back several years have suggested the Duke of York uses the moniker, Andrew Inverness, but it has never been officially confirmed.

A Met spokesperson confirmed they are looking into the report, but are not conducting an investigation yet.

“On Monday, January 6, the Met received a report relating to a Companies House filing,” they said.

“This report will now be assessed to determine whether any further action is required. There is no investigation at this early stage.”

According to Mail Online, the alias has been used to register four companies on Companies House.

The outlet also claimed that the Duke was privately involved with another company called Urramoor Ltd, which has recently been shut down and dissolved.

The allegations came shortly after it emerged that the Duke of York had been friends with an alleged Chinese spy, whose identity has now been revealed as Yang Tengbo.

The Duke reportedly “ceased all contact” with the businessman and maintained that nothing sensitive was ever discussed.
