Sir Elton John fires dig at King Charles and Queen Camilla after ‘friendship’ with Harry

Sir Elton John has taken a playful jab at King Charles and Queen Camilla while reminiscing about his own wedding.

The Rocketman singer, who is reportedly still close to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, entered into a civil partnership with David Furnish at Windsor Guildhall in 2005. The-then Prince Charles and Camilla had tied the knot at the same venue just eight months earlier.

In an interview with Variety magazine, Sir Elton fondly remembered his big day, saying: “We did it at the same place as Charles and Camilla. We had a bigger crowd.”

According to the Daily Mail, Charles and Camilla’s wedding was attended by over 20,000 people, while the BBC reported that “hundreds of well wishers” were present at Sir Elton’s ceremony.

The 77-year-old music legend is believed to have footed the bill for policing on his wedding day. Richard Eden, Diary Editor for the Daily Mail, suggested that while the exact size of the crowds is uncertain, the police may have provided Sir Elton with an estimate.

Charles and Camilla had originally planned to marry at Windsor Castle, but due to licensing laws which would require the venue to be open to other couples for at least three years, they decided to move their nuptials to Guildhall.

Rebecca English, Royal Editor for the Daily Mail, who attended the royal couple’s wedding, disputed Sir Elton’s claim. She said: “I was standing outside the Guildhall and we were packed like sardines. There were people with flags and bunting, so I’m really sorry but I don’t think he knows what he’s talking about.”

Richard also suggested the singer remains close to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, despite reports to the contrary.
