“So much respect from Carlos Alcaraz” – Boris Becker shares his feelings after Rafael Nadal’s Six Kings Slam loss to compatriot
Carlos Alcaraz’s recent triumph over Rafael Nadal at the 2024 Six King Slam drew Boris Becker’s attention. Becker was impressed not only with the Spanish duo’s on-court flair but also with their heartfelt admiration and respect for one another.
Alcaraz had previously shared that he grew up watching the 22-time Grand Slam champion and idolized him. Nadal also hailed Alcaraz as one of the best players on tour in an on-court interview after their match in Riyadh.
Boris Becker took to X to share his feelings on watching the camaraderie between the Spaniards. He wrote:
The match also marks one of the few on-court appearances of the tennis legend left before his impending retirement at the 2024 Davis Cup. He will be teaming up with Carlos Alcaraz, Roberto Bautista Agut, and Pablo Carreno Busta to represent Spain at the event in Malaga at the end of November.
Rafael Nadal showered praises on Carlos Alcaraz after his loss to the latter at the 2024 Six King Slam. He believed that to him, his compatriot’s talent shone through right at their first meeting.
In an on-court interview with both players conducted by former player and British broadcaster Andrew Castle, Nadal was asked:
“Rafa, When I asked Carlos; when was the first time he saw you play, it was like as soon as he opened his eyes. When was the first time you saw Carlos was a special player?”
The 14-time French Open champion reflected on his first meeting with Alcaraz and said:
“Well of course when you are in the world of tennis, somebody is coming from the same country as you and he’s winning, he’s special, the people were telling me somebody good is coming” [at 4:17].
The Spaniard laughingly added:
“But of course I didn’t have the chance to watch him play till I was practicing with him on Australia, I think it was 2021 and yeah, even if he was very young, you see things that you don’t see in others. You can see it now.”
Carlos Alcaraz will next play Jannik Sinner for the top prize at the exhibition event. Meanwhile, Rafael Nadal will gear up for a mouthwatering third-place encounter with Novak Djokovic. Both matches will take place on Saturday, October 19.
