Meghan Markle is grieving the loss of a family pet. On January 7, Markle took to Instagram just days after her return to the app to reveal the loss of her dog, Guy, and shared intimate moments from his life, which included time spent with her two children, Archie and Lilibet.
The video features a montage of videos and photos taken over the course of Guy’s life—the pup was present while Markle was an actress on Suits, when she began dating Prince Harry, as well as their eventual engagement, marriage, and pregnancies. With Guy such a constant throughout Markle’s life, Archie and Lilibet also developed a bond with him, as evidenced in new photos and video featured in the tribute video she posted following the dog’s death.
A clip in the video featured Prince Harry, alongside Archie, taking Guy for a walk while visiting a farm that featured barn animals. Harry and Archie were greeted by donkeys near the barn fencing, and Guy took watch and was on his leash close by.

The next never-before-seen moment featured Markle and Lilibet having a mother and daughter time in the grass on a sunny day. The duo sat down on a blanket, accompanied by their three dogs, which included Guy, who stood up tall next to them.

“If you followed me on instagram back in the day, you saw a lot of him—and on The Tig [her defunct blog] too. He was with me at Suits, when I got engaged, (and then married), when I became a mom….he was with me for everything: the quiet, the chaos, the calm, the comfort,” Markle wrote in the heartbreaking post.
“Because many of you will now see Guy in this new series, I hope you’ll come to understand why I am so devastated by his loss. I think you may fall a little bit in love too,” she explained. “I have cried too many tears to count – the type of tears that make you get in the shower with the absurd hope that the running water on your face will somehow make you not feel them, or pretend they’re not there. But they are. And that’s okay too.”
“Thank you for so many years of unconditional love, my sweet Guy,” Markle concluded her post. “You filled my life in ways you’ll never know.”
