During her first appearance at Trooping the Colour in 2018, Meghan Markle attempted to lighten the mood. However, a joke she made to her new sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, fell flat, according to her husband, Prince Harry.
This comment, perhaps intended as a brief summary of the day’s events celebrating the late queen’s official birthday, didn’t go down well. Harry recalled a consequent “yawning silence (that) threatened to swallow us whole”.
Despite underlying tensions behind the scenes, the event, one of Harry and Meghan’s first as a married couple, was a hit with royal fans. Large crowds gathered along the streets to watch the procession make its way to Horse Guards Parade, and the Duke and Duchess arrived alongside the Duke of Kent in a horse-drawn carriage.
In Spare, Harry detailed the highly-publicised fallout between the royal couples, including revelations from private conversations and claims that Kate and William “stereotyped” Meghan, reports the Express.
There’s been much talk about a past tiff between Meghan and Kate over wedding details. The disagreement sparked when Meghan responded to Kate’s forgetfulness by suggesting she had “baby brain”, a comment that reportedly left the Princess of Wales feeling insulted.
