Kate Middleton Rode Bus With School Children for Royal Visit

Kate Middleton‘s return to royal life is in full swing, and as such, her schedule has been jam packed with royal appearances. The Princess of Wales had a lighthearted event on her royal calendar on February 4, as she accompanied a group of young school children for a visit to an art gallery.

Middleton made her grand entrance at the National Portrait Gallery in London—which she attended in order to support a new initiative designed to help children express themselves through art—by showing up in a school bus alongside a fleet of school children. A lucky little girl named Grace got to hold the princess’s hand as they walked towards the gallery. For the appearance, Middleton wore a brown blazer layered over a black turtleneck and styled with charcoal pinstripe trousers.

The students, who hailed from All Souls Church of England Primary School in London, went with Middleton to experience the Bobeam Tree Trail, “an interactive journey through the gallery’s portraits designed to foster social and emotional learning,” People reports.

The gallery visit falls squarely within Middleton’s Shaping Us Framework. The initiative, which she launched on February 2, was created alongside the Centre for Early Childhood and the National Portrait Gallery. In addition to the sweet cause, Middleton’s visit has a special meaning, as she became a patron of the gallery during her first year of her royal career.

As for how Middleton’s visit went, Alix Ascough, executive head of All Souls Church of England Primary School, had nothing but glowing things to say about the princess. “For the children, it was just so magical. It was an awe and wonder moment [sic],” she said, recounting their visit. “They’ve been doing lots of artwork at school, so for them to be able to that within the gallery with the Princess was magical. It’s what memories are made of.”

“She sat with the children on the coach and chatted with them,” Ascough added, noting that Middleton even played “I Spy” with the children. “She was so relaxed and animated, and it just felt really natural. We’ll never have another school trip like that, will we? It was lovely, special.”
