King Charles in high spirits as he joints important discussion with Angela Rayner

King Charles was all smiles this morning as he joined a discussion on youth opportunities in Scotland.

The 75-year-old monarch, who has spent much of the summer north of the Border and is set to return to London at the end of the month, heard from charities working on the ground in Ayrshire, Glasgow and across the United Kingdom.

Joining a discussion with representatives from the Scottish Violence Reduction Unit (SVRU), some of their partners, The King’s Foundation and The King’s Trust, Charles heard reflections on how to better identify the root causes of violence, and how further support can be made to young people.

Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner was in attendance, alongside other ambassadors from the King’s Trust – formerly the Prince’s Trust.

This included Reece Hayes, who was previously named The Prince’s Trust Scotland Young Ambassador of the Year and the Trust’s Young Achiever in 2020 for overcoming a traumatic childhood and mental health problems to dedicate himself to helping others.

In July the monarch joined a King’s Trust discussion on the same topic, which was attended by the Prime Minister and actress Idris Elba.

During this, the success of Glasgow in tackling violence in the area was raised.

At Dumfries House today, the King will hear about the SVRU’s experience of using a public health approach to identify, understand and address the underlying causes of violence.
