New husband of Norway princess Martha Louise hits out at trolls amid royal family row
Princess Martha Louise of Norway married her husband Durek Verret in a lavish ceremony, covered by Netflix but the self-described shaman has hit out at social media users
Princess Martha Louise of Norway’s second husband has furiously hit out at social media users.
The daughter of King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway tied the knot with American Durek Verret, 49, on Saturday – but their relationship has attracted its fair share of controversy. The film rights for the lavish ceremony were sold exclusively to Netflix after the eldest daughter of the Monarch shunned all Norwegian press.
Martha Louise, 52, and Derek have been slammed by Norwegians, with many calling for her to lose her Princess title. Although she is not a working member of the Royal Family and holds no position in court, she is by law and birth a Princess as the eldest daughter of the King and Queen. Martha Louise said she can talk with angels, while Verret claims that he communicates with a broad range of spirits and has a medallion which helps ward off spells and cures diseases. She has even claimed she was haunted by the ghost of a Nazi SS general who shot himself in her bedroom.
Ahead of their ceremony, which was attended by friends, family and members of the Royal Family, the couple sat down for an interview about their relationship and declared their love for one another. But while they may have assumed many would be touched by the decision, some criticised the Princess and Derek and claimed they were cashing in on her royal status. Durek will not gain any royal title, while Martha Louise will retain hers.
One follower commented on Instagram: “Why are you always use name Princess Durek??” after he referred to her to Martha Louise as a Princess. He furiously hit back: “I don’t! It’s her wedding time, and that is what she is. Last time I checked. Right? I mean as according the family.”
