Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have raised eyebrows with the release of a personal announcement.
On Monday, details of Harry’s brand new Netflix show were revealed to the public. Titled Polo, the show will delve into the lives of professional polo players.
But royal fans were quick to note that the announcement was made less than two hours after Kate’s revelation that her chemotherapy treatment has finished.
It’s not the first occasion that the timing of a Sussex announcement has been called into question. Below we look at awkward clashes between announcements and events…
Meghan Markle caused a stir back in June with an awkward announcement relating to her lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard.
On 14 June, Kate had released a personal statement giving an update on her health, three months after sharing her cancer diagnosis. And she shared the happy news that the following day she would make her long-awaited return to the public eye by attending the King’s birthday parade, Trooping the Colour.
But then, around six hours before Kate’s outing, one of Meghan’s celebrity friends announced two new products in her fledgling brand.
Nacho Figueras, professional polo player and close friend of Harry, used his Instagram Stories to share several images of a pot of raspberry jam and jar of dog biscuits from Meghan’s American Riviera Orchard brand. And critics were quick to question the timing of Nacho’s post – and the Sussexes’ involvement.
Book release
In May 2021, Meghan was again accused of “trying to upstage Kate” by announcing the release of her children’s book days before the Princess’s photography album was released.
The Duchess revealed she would be publishing The Bench, an illustrated story inspired by son Archie and husband Harry. But some pointed out the announcement came days before the publication of a photography book that Kate had been working on for a year.
The book, Hold Still, captured life in the UK under lockdown and the Covid-19 pandemic.
