David Beckham ‘not getting knighthood’ despite unlikely friendship with King Charles
David Beckham will reportedly not receive a knighthood on the forthcoming New Year’s Honours list despite an unlikely friendship with King Charles.
Beckham and wife Victoria attended their first state banquet at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday for The Emir of Qatar. Becks, 49, was England’s ambassador for the World Cup in Qatar.
He and Charles have formed a friendship in the past couple of years, it is understood. However, it is thought the manchester-united-fc>Manchester United legend will again be snubbed for a knighthood as that accolade, it is said, will instead be bestowed upon former England manager Gareth Southgate.
“It’s not happening for David this time around. It’s Gareth’s big hurrah and David is thrilled for him. David knew it wouldn’t be his time and he is fine with that but you never know what is down the line,” a source told the Daily Mail.
When they met at the British Fashion Council awards, David gave the monarch a pot of his homemade honey – D Bee’z Sticky Stuff – which he makes at the couple’s Grade II listed barn in Great Tew, Oxfordshire. It was then that they discovered common ground – their mutual love for bees.
Charles asked Beckham, who played more than 100 times for England, to join The King’s Foundation, a charity which works globally to create sustainable communities.
