A pet owner from Oslo, in Norway, filmed her apartment cat’s first visit to her grandparents’ home in the countryside, and the feline’s reaction has warmed the hearts of social media users.
In a video shared on TikTok in December under the username @miso.mignonette, the tabby cat, Miso, can be seen exploring the big house in awe, walking all over the furniture and smelling all the flowers and plants around her.
“When you bring your city cat to your parents’ house in the countryside,” reads layover text in the clip. A caption adds: “Little does she know she is going back to my tiny apartment in two days.”
Cats are notoriously good at adapting to new places and situations, however, they still need enough space to thrive. How much space exactly your cat needs is influenced by factors like breed, age, size, activity level and personality.
Georgia-based veterinarian Jess Kirk, says on Vet Explains Pets that high-energy breeds, like the Bengal cat, need more space to run and play, than some other cats. Seniors, on the other hands, may be content with a cozy corner to nap in.
The number of cats you have in the house will also determine how much space you need for them. Because cats are territorial creatures, they all need enough space for themselves to cohabit peacefully.
A Pango Vet article medically reviewed by Dr. Paola Cuevas says it’s crucial that cats are provided with a vertical space to climb, which should be a minimum of 3 feet for cats under 8.8 pounds and at least 4 feet for cats over 8.8 pounds.

The video quickly went viral on social media and it has so far received over 1.6 million views and 324,800 likes on the platform.
One user, The Gold Edit, commented: “On the third trip to my parents house my cat refused to get in the car to return to our apartment. She ran away and hid.”
