Queen Camilla issues rare health update on lasting effect of pneumonia diagnosis

Queen Camilla, who is on the mend after a bout of pneumonia, has given an update on her health during a reception to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Women’s Aid. The 77 year old Queen used the occasion to reaffirm her commitment to never cease advocating for victims of domestic abuse and shared her dismay that domestic violence is still prevalent.

Many guests praised the Queen for her recent ITV documentary, Her Majesty the Queen: Behind Closed Doors, which delved into her extensive work in this area. Among those present was Alice Liveing, a survivor of abuse at the hands of her partner when she was just 16.

Now an ambassador for Women’s Aid, Miss Liveing shared an update on the Queen’s health after their conversation. She revealed: “I asked how she was feeling. She said she was feeling pretty tired but was trying to juggle some bits.”

Despite battling fatigue, the Queen still made it to the reception at the Institute of Mechanical Engineers, located just moments away from Clarence House. There, she celebrated the considerable advancements made by the charity over the past 50 years, reports the Mirror.

Sharing some spontaneous thoughts before a cake-cutting ceremony, she shared her admiration: “If you think what’s happening now compared to what was happening 50 years ago, you must all be incredibly proud of yourselves. I think so many people hadn’t realised what domestic abuse was, especially then. It’s terrible that after 50 years, it still hasn’t been eradicated, but we are making progress.”
