Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are rolling up their sleeves and doing what they can to help those affected by the Los Angeles wildfires.
On Friday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were among the hundreds of Southern California residents who stepped up to help evacuees of the fires, meeting with victims at the Pasadena Convention Center, which has turned into a evacuation site for those forced to leave their homes. According to People, the couple not only donated essential supplies, but also served meals with World Central Kitchen.

In footage captured by local news outlet Fox 11, Meghan and Harry—who were joined by chef José Andrés, as well as California’s first partner, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, and Mayor Victor Gordo—were spotted thanking first responders for their efforts and chatting with other volunteers. “It’s great people, great personalities and great heart for them to come out here and meet with the first responders, meet with the people who were affected,” Gordo said of the Sussexes appearance while speaking with the news station. “It’s very important.”
He continued, “They want to be as helpful as they can be … we visited with some of the affected families in some of the burned-out areas in Pasadena and Altadena. They took the time to meet the people that are affected and spent time. They’re just very caring people who are concerned for their friends and neighbors.”

Gordo noted that Meghan and Harry volunteered “anonymously,” with both dressed in baseball caps and face masks. “No one knew they were serving food with masks,” said the mayor, adding that their appearance was not for “publicity” and that they genuinely wanted to “work.”

Markle grew up in Los Angeles, and now she, Harry, and their two young children—Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 3—reside approximately 100 miles north of the city in Montecito. According to Town & Country, Harry and Meghan have opened up their home to friends and loved ones forced to evacuate. They’ve also been donating money, clothing, and essential items to those impacted through Archewell Foundation.
