TikTok users have been left in stitches after a ginger cat named Cheeto took serious exception to a piece of his owner’s new home decor.
In a video with over 970,000 views, Amy Stellwag (@dwonsgirl on TikTok) shared last week the moment Cheeto, her orange tabby cat, giving a comically dramatic response to a feline-shaped dishcloth.
The video begins with Cheeto approaching with extreme caution, tail poofed up and ears back—classic signs of a concerned or threatened cat. It then cuts to the dishcloth, draped innocently over the oven handle, the cartoon-style orange cat design is clearly too much for Cheeto to handle.
In the caption, Stellwag wrote: “My husband gave me this kitchen towel for Christmas. Cheeto does NOT like it. Right after the video he smacked the s*** out of it.”
Adding to the humor is Cheeto’s counterpart, Romeow, who is utterly unfazed. While Cheeto treats the fabric feline like a mortal enemy, Romeow lounges on the counter, casting the occasional glance but remaining perfectly calm.
Newsweek reached out to @dwonsgirl via TikTok for comment.
TikTok users couldn’t get enough of the hilarious moment and headed to the comments section to share their reactions.
One user, Lina, wrote: “I love how Cheeto is not having it and the other cat on the counter is completely UNFAZED.”
Caribe.tx posted: “This is uncanny valley but for cats.”
DJB2022 added: “I had a full-sized ceramic statue of an orange cat that I sat by a bookcase. One of my cats noticed it and went all Chuck Norris in front of it. Now he just hisses as he passes it.”
TikTok user Violet wrote: “My cat HATES my grogu stuffed animal.”
In a later comment, Stellwag shared further insights into Cheeto’s skittish nature: “Cheeto is a scaredy cat, he was terrified of ceiling fans. He hid under a bed in one room for an entire day until he finally decided it was safe and it wasn’t going to come down and attack him.”
She also explained that although Cheeto occasionally tries to wrestle with Romeow, he “always backs off.”
Last year, another orange cat named Pumpkin gained viral attention when he tried to prank his sister—only to fail miserably. In the viral video, Pumpkin hid inside a cardboard box, waiting for his calico sister, Maple, to walk by so he can jump scare her. But Pumpkin’s timing let him down as he jumped out of the box after Maple had walked past, unbothered.
