Meghan Markle, Prince Harry Open Home to Loved Ones Amid Los Angeles Fires

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are showing their support for the residents of Los Angeles during the tragic ongoing wildfires. On Thursday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex—who relocated to Montecito, California after taking a step back from the royal family—released an emotional statement on their website, extending their sympathies and sharing a number of resources. The couple has also reportedly opened up their Montecito home to friends and family displaced by the fires

The message read, “In the last few days, wildfires in Southern California have raged through neighborhoods and devastated families, homes, schools, medical care centers, and so much more—affecting tens of thousands from all walks of life. A state of emergency has been issued.”

The husband and wife also shared a list of resources and organizations for those seeking assistance or ways to help, including World Central Kitchen, Cal Fire, LA Fire Department Foundation, Animal Wellness Foundation, Compton Cowboys, Airbnb and 211LA, Baby2baby, and All Power Books.

They also encouraged others to, if possible, open their homes as a “safe haven” for anyone displaced by the fires. “If a friend, loved one, or pet has to evacuate and you are able to offer them a safe haven in your home, please do,” the statement continued. “And be sure to check in with any disabled or elderly neighbors to see if they need help evacuating.”

According to Town & Country, Harry and Meghan have opened up their own property to friends and loved ones forced to evacuate from their residences. They’ve also been donating money, clothing, and essential items to those impacted through Archewell Foundation. The outlet also reports that they are currently working with their organization to figure out the most effective relief efforts, as well as working alongside chef José Andrés and his foundation World Central Kitchen.

The devastating event, which began in the Pacific Palisades earlier this week, has killed at least five people killed and injured hundreds, while more than 100,000 people have been evacuated. Celebrities including Mandy Moore, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Kate Beckinsale, and more have released emotional statements about the disaster. Paris Hilton, Tina Knowles, Billy Crystal, and others revealed that their homes had burned down.

“Heartbroken beyond words.💔 Sitting with my family, watching the news, and seeing our home in Malibu burn to the ground on live TV is something no one should ever have to experience 😢,” Hilton wrote alongside a video of a news clip of the rubble of her home. “This home was where we built so many precious memories. It’s where Phoenix took his first steps and where we dreamed of building a lifetime of memories with London.🥹”
