A couple from Adelaide, in South Australia, went to a local shelter just to have a look at the pups in there, but their visit took a very different turn.
In a viral TikTok video shared in December under the username @thealtylife, the poster can be seen sitting on the floor in her living room with a big puppy curling up on her lap, enjoying the warmth of his new home.
As they visited the shelter, the couple fell in love with a puppy and immediately decided to take him with them and give him a loving home. The pup couldn’t have been happier, wiggling his tail as his new owner kissed him all over.
“First night after bringing home our rescue puppy from the shelter. This is your sign to adopt,” reads layover text in the clip.
“We brought our puppy home from the shelter pretty spontaneously lol.. we went to the shelter ‘just to look’ and fell in love with this guy without having any idea how much our routines were about to change!” the caption says.
With over 6.3 pets entering American shelters every year, they often end up euthanizing those who don’t get adopted fairly soon.
It is estimated that almost a million pets every year are put down by shelters, mostly for lack of space to keep them, even those who are happy and healthy.
Adopting a pup is very easy, all you need to do is have a look at shelters online and find one you think suits your lifestyle and personality, then fill in an application and wait to be contacted by the staff.
You may get to know your pup at the shelter before bringing it home, to rule out any allergies and to ensure you’re compatible. It is advisable to get all the items they may need, like bowls, blankets, toys and beds, before their arrival.

The video quickly went viral on social media and it has so far received over 151,000 views and 14,300 likes on the platform.
One user, Beatrice Stoler, commented: “I think he knows he found his forever home; thank you for adopting this precious baby.”

Popvettz added: “Nothing like rescuing an animal. We rescued two golden retrievers. One from Kuwait and one locally, 6 years apart. They know they are home. Congratulations! They are love sponges!!!”
