Kate Middleton Is the “Glue” Between Prince William and King Charles

Kate Middleton is the saving grace of the monarchy in more ways than one. In addition to pushing through her cancer diagnosis and showing up at royal events while she received chemotherapy, the Princess of Wales has also played a pivotal part in keeping Prince William and King Charles‘s relationship healthy during the royal family’s recent challenging times.

A source told Fox News that Charles and Middleton get along swimmingly, and that their shared interests has translated well enough to help her keep William and Charles’s relationship with each other positive—or positive enough—despite murmurings of a rivalry between them.

“King Charles is extremely fond and proud of his daughter-in-law,” British broadcaster and photographer Helena Chard told the outlet. “I believe he is one of her biggest fans. They share similar passions, and he recognizes her wow factor, empathy and resilience. She is solution-focused and is certainly the glue between Prince William and King Charles III.”

Chard added that the “father and son don’t always see eye to eye,” which isn’t the first reports of William and Charles clashing with each other.

Us Weekly reported in November “there’s occasional tension” between the father and son because he knows that William will take the throne soon. “It’s a sensitive topic,” the Us source said, adding that William’s future is broached with “discretion and purpose.”

Behind the scenes, the monarch is not expected to go quietly. “Charles has wanted to be the monarch for decades,” the Us insider explained at the time. “Even though he’s battling cancer, he’s not letting that get in the way of his desire to be successful on the throne or a dynamic leader.”

William, meanwhile, is “preparing behind the scenes for when his ascension happens.” And like his father, “he takes being a success in the royal role very seriously.”

Christopher Andersen, author of The King: The Life of Charles III, also told Fox News that Charles appreciates Middleton’s presence in the royal family because she is “tough-minded” and “a realist,”

“Because of their shared cancer battle, Kate and the king have strengthened their bond in ways neither could have imagined,” he explained. “King Charles was so impressed with her grace and grit that he bestowed a singular honor on Kate, making her a Royal Companion of Honour, an unmistakable sign of his faith in her ability to help carry the monarchy forward.”
