A video of a dog appearing “so excited” over having access to a backyard in its new home has gone viral on TikTok.
The clip was shared by @anna549703 and has garnered more than 1.2 million views since it was shared on January 1. A note overlaid on the video reads: “From a townhouse with no yard in California to a house in Maine with a giant yard.” Newsweek has contacted the original poster for comment via TikTok. This video has not been independently verified.
The footage shows a dog being let out onto a deck overlooking a backyard space surrounded by the woods. The pup pauses and looks back at the camera as a voice off-camera says, “We’re home,” before it runs off onto the grass. The note on the screen says, “Mochis reaction,” as the pup is seen running around in circles across the backyard.
Owning and caring for dogs can be challenging, “especially for those residing in urban areas,” noted an April 2022 study done in Japan.
The study, published in Frontiers in Public Health, concluded that “dog ownership and dog walking have been found to promote physical and mental health in several ways.” The researchers added that “the design of the surrounding built environment can facilitate or hinder the expected health benefits of owning a dog.”
In dense urban areas, where most housing units either have no yard or only come with a small yard, public open spaces may play a key part in acquiring and walking a dog. However, several issues can exist with public open spaces, such as overcrowding, which can have a negative impact on dog ownership and walking, the study noted.
It also found that “while most of the health benefits of dog ownership are derived from dog walking, not all owners walk their dogs.”
According to research done in the U.S., 30 percent of dog owners were found to have not walked their pets in the past week, the study said.

‘That’s One Happy Dog’
Viewers on TikTok were heart-warmed by the dog’s reaction in the viral clip.

User sarahdaley546 noted: “How gorgeous is this! Beautiful home and he’s so excited!!!”
Angel & Gracie posted, “That’s one happy dog right there,” and Penny France commented: “This made me smile so much.”
User reginawilliams113 said, “He stopped and looked like ‘all of this is mines,'” and Nina | adhd & autistic biz wrote: “His reaction is ‘girl this is nicccccce, all this is mine.'”
