Laughter as Doorbell Cam Captures Labrador’s Reaction to Car Parked ‘Wrong’

The moment an unwitting Labrador tried to enter his owner’s car through the hood rather than the open door at the back has gone viral, leading to jokes about the breed’s IQ.

The hilarious home security footage was shared on TikTok by dog owner Tracy (@tracyandcooper2023), showing Cooper’s unorthodox attempt to climb into the car. The caption layered over the video explained that the car was parked “the wrong way around” and evidently, the Labrador didn’t realize what that meant.

To be fair, it was also dark.

Cooper clearly thought the car door was in its usual spot, so he tried to jump on to the hood and slid right off.

After watching Cooper’s farcical error, his owner couldn’t resist sharing the Ring footage on TikTok. In just a matter of days, the video has gone viral with over 708,500 views and 45,600 likes at the time of writing.

Newsweek contacted @tracyandcooper2023 via TikTok for comment.

The dog’s antics certainly left his owner in disbelief, as the caption jokes: “Good lord, I thought Labradors were clever.”

According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), Labrador retrievers are in the top 10 most intelligent dog breeds, and one of the most popular. They note that canine intelligence is measured through their natural instincts for retrieving, guarding or herding without any training; their problem-solving ability; and their ability to learn new tasks and cues via human instruction.

Their ability to know one end of a car from the other is not one of the criteria, it seems.

It’s not just Labradors who are esteemed learners however, as the AKC also highlights border collies, poodles, German shepherds, golden retrievers, corgis, and rottweilers as other intelligent breeds.

The Social Media Reaction

After the video of Cooper sprawling on the hood went viral, his owner shared a much-awaited video to assure people that Cooper was perfectly fine after, and so was the car.

Social media users can’t get enough of Cooper’s silly antics, leading to more than 230 comments on the viral TikTok video so far. Plenty of people lauded Cooper’s lovable naïveté, while many fellow dog owners found it very relatable and shared their own similar experiences.

One comment reads: “I mean, I’m on his side. It is dark and he didn’t have his glasses on.”

Another TikTok user joked: “I was also under the impression that Labs were clever until I got one and realized the whole breed shares the same singular brain cell.”

“He looked before he leaped he just didn’t look very well,” another commenter wrote.

While one TikTok user added: “Mine jumps at the car before the boot is even open.”
