Prince William’s ‘veiled dig’ at Prince Harry as royal fans spot ‘shady’ comment

Prince William says he doesn’t want to ‘preach’ to people about looking after the planet – in an apparent veiled dig at estranged brother Prince Harry.

The Prince of Wales delighted fans by sinking his favourite tipple cider while chatting to the actress Hannah Waddingham about his Earthshot Prize over a game of darts at Alexandra Palace, which is staging the Darts World Championship.

The interview looks to promote his new Earthshot documentary and was released on his official social media channels, where he revealed his hopes for the 10-year project which aims to find solutions to some of the world’s most pressing problems facing the environment.

During the friendly chat, William said he wants to be ‘positive’ and not ‘preach’ as he discussed the goals behind his Earthshot Prize. He told Ted Lasso star Hannah: “It’s about doing it in a slightly different way that doesn’t damage what we care about. [I want to] celebrate talent and solutions, rather than telling people ”don’t do this or don’t do that’. You’ve got to be so careful because there’s been a lot of that.’ He added: “I don’t want to preach, I want to find solutions.”

And many believed that William’s comments were a dig at his younger brother, who has long drawn criticism for promoting sustainable travel – but has taken frequent private jet flights. Writing on X, one royal watcher said: “Harold [referring to Harry] and wife should take his brother’s advice here.” While another simply said: “Oh the shade…”

The warring brothers, who have both championed protecting the planet, have been embroiled in a bitter rift for many years with reports claiming they have not spoken in over two years since the death of the late Queen.
