The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are keeping out of the political fray as a host of other celebrities throw their support behind a presidential candidate
Harry and Meghan are ‘going out of their way’ to stay out of the US elections as America prepares to vote in a new president.
The 2024 United States elections are scheduled to be held on November 5, 2024, With Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump battling for the White House.
Oprah Winfrey, who hosted Harry and Meghan’s controversial interview following their departure from the Royal family, recently held a star-studded election event in support of candidate Harris.
However, despite their close relationship with TV megastar Oprah, Harry and Meghan did not attend the campaign event. And The Telegraph claims this is because the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are “keeping well out of the political fray.”
The paper reports: “Their only foray in this election cycle was to issue a statement via their charity the Archewell Foundation, encouraging unregistered voters to make sure they were not disenfranchised.”
The statement issued on national voter registration day declared: “At the Archewell Foundation, we recognise that civic engagement, no matter one’s political party, is at the heart of a more just and equitable world.”
This is a different approach to the one taken by the couple during the last US Presidential election cycle, when Trump was going toe-to-toe with Joe Biden. At that time, , the Duke and Duchess appeared on camera with a personal appeal to voters to register in order to “reject hate speech, misinformation and online negativity”.
The video also caused outrage in the UK because the Royal family is not supposed to dabble in politics.
